Inspiration Monday: The Barbican Centre

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/8694277.stm
The Barbican Centre in London has played a part in my life for almost as long as I can remember.

One recollection brings about an image of bright sunlight, sparkling reflections from the Waterside fountains, red seats and high, soaring windows which brought on a sense of unreality.  On relating this tale to my parents we worked out that I was 3 or 4 years old and I was waiting with my mother and sister to meet my father who worked on the construction project in the 1970s.

Making screen printed cards under the chandelier over the main staircase; watching the live performance of Leonard Bernstein's concert West Side Story in the Barbican Hall in 1984; and years later in 2003, working as a steward alongside really creative and inspiring people.

Since then, I have enjoyed concerts, peaceful moments, spontaneous discoveries walking through the building, film, chats with friends...

I'm still undecided about the architecture - although now iconic in architecture history, as I have heard tales of the construction processI find it difficutle to be fully passionate...but that's another discussion.

A Stitch in time....

Now that I have worked out how to use the reverse stitch on my sewing machine, I no longer have to hand sew each seam to prevent long term unpicking.  Result!

So, this weekend I indulged in stitch...

beautiful Liberty print fabric + sage green felt + hand embroidery = lovely new mobile phone case.

Nice.
