Yes, two inspiration posts for today!
We headed to the beautiful Layer Marney Towers in Essex yesterday to see the exhibition by the Colne and Colchester Embroiderers' Guild group. The work was so diverse and truly exquisite. The patient sewing hours and craft skills involved in creating the pieces on display is incredible.
If you're in the area catch the exhibition until the 10th August....
I must add a post about my local art gallery - a relatively new venture in Colchester and owned by artist and designer Lee Thomas.
I've visited the past three exhibitions - all very well curated and exhibited - with works by the highly talented, Coggeshall based Typoretum, students of the BA Honours degree in 3D Design and Craft at the Colchester Institute and most recently, by Lee Thomas and two other local artists. The Gallery is a lovely, hidden gem and well worth seeking out. Each exhibition runs for a month so plenty of excuses for a return visit and coffee in town!
Natasha Newton's paintings have a quality of tranquility about them. Using a carefully limited palette, Natasha creates images of birds and the night sky in a rural landscape.
I particularly like Natasha's 'book arts style' collection boxes. These are filled with a beautiful set of artworks from painted pebbles to small canvases or prints.
